The Tweed Chamber of Commerce and members of the Festival of Trees, along with over 100 residents of municipality of Tweed joined forces to knit a wonderful 300 foot red scarf to show their support of our athletes in the Winter Olympics. The top photo shows MP Kramp joined by some of the organizers and knitters receiving the scarf which MP Kramp took to Ottawa to present to Minister of State (Sport), Gary Lunn for its journey to Vancouver. The bottom photo shows MP Kramp holding the scarf with Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Minister of Heritage and Official Languages, James Moore, both of whom were very impressed with this amazing scarf and the dedication and community spirit that went into creating it!

Immediate Release The Government of Canada supports seniors in Prince Edward-Hastings Belleville, ON, -Daryl Kramp, Member of Parliament for Prince Edward-Hastings, today announced federal support for the Corporation of the County of Hastings under the Government of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors Program. Mr. Kramp made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, and the Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State (Seniors). The Corporation of the County of Hastings will receive $18,506 for its project "Links to Legacy" (life histories through art and written memorials), and $18,907 for its project, "Seniors in Motion" (interactive games for at-risk Seniors). "Seniors are valuable members of society who contribute a diversity of skills, knowledge and experience to their communities," said Mr. Kramp. "Through the Community Participation and Leadership component of the New Horizons for Seniors Program, the Government of Canada is supporting local projects that enable seniors to contribute to their communities through social participation and active living." The investment highlighted today falls under the Community Participation and Leadership component of the New Horizons for Seniors Program, which encourages seniors to continue to play an important role in their communities by helping those in need, providing leadership, and sharing their knowledge and skills with others. With two additional components of the New Horizons for Seniors Program-Capital Assistance and Elder Abuse Awareness-the overall budget of the Program is now $35 million per year.
